An Edgbaston tower block has been sealed off this morning (Jan 14) after a woman’s body was found in a flat.
Officers were alerted just before 5.30am by a man making a 999 call having discovered the woman – believed to be in her early 50s – collapsed in a bedroom at Century Tower in Dollery Drive off the Bristol Road.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and, at this stage, her death is being treated as unexplained.
The block and its grounds have been cordonned off by police as forensics experts examine the location for evidence, whilst CCTV from the flats is being recovered.
House to house enquiries are underway and there will be an increased police presence in the area today as neighbourhood patrols provide reassurance for local residents.
West Midlands Police Detective Superintendent Mark Payne, said: “At this early stage it’s not yet clear how long the woman has been dead. I’d ask for anyone who has seen or heard anything suspicious at the tower block over the last few days to contact West Midlands Police on the 101 number.”
