Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in the street in Worcester on Sunday afternoon (30 March).
At approximately 2:25pm, the man was walking along Astwood Road, from Blackpole towards the city centre, when a red Audi A3 pulled up just in front of him and two men, one whom he knew, got out and ran towards him.
The man he recognised assaulted him, punching him a number of times to the head and face, and when he fell to his knees he was then kicked to the head.
The two men drove off in the Audi while the man was taken to hospital where he was treated for extensive cuts and bruises, including stitches for a cut above his eye.
PC Daniel Smart, who is investigating the incident, is looking for any independent witnesses to the assault. He is particularly keen to trace a passing female driver who stopped just after the attack and offer the man a lift, which he declined.
He said: “At that time on Sunday afternoon, there were lots of people around on Astwood Road and if anyone witnessed the assault take place, I urge them to come forward.
“I am particularly keen to speak to the Good Samaritan who stopped to offer the victim her help as she may have seen the assault and the offenders.
“This was a vicious and sustained attack and I need to bring to justice those responsible. However, I would like to reassure the public this was an isolated incident between parties who we believe are known each other.”
