Police have released images of a young woman they would like to speak to after an elderly lady’s pension was stolen from a post office counter in Walsall last month.
The 84-year-old visited Beechdale’s Post Office on Stephenson Square on Monday 3 March to withdraw her pension.
She accidentally left her wallet and cash on the counter and left. The pensioner returned to the post office when she realised her mistake and when staff checked their CCTV it clearly showed a woman take the money from the counter.
The CCTV has been handed over to the police who have launched an investigation into the theft.
The woman is described as white, in her late twenties, with dark brown shoulder length hair pulled into a pony tail. At the time of theft, the thief had a young child with her.
PC Giles states “The victim in this case is elderly and clearly vulnerable; she obviously relies on her pension money.
“The suspect, who had with her a young child, gave no thought whatsoever as to who the money might belong to and what impact the theft may have had on the rightful owner.
“I would appeal for this woman to do the right thing and call me or on of the team. If anyone recognises the woman the please get in touch.”
