A man who was stabbed by his work colleague and neighbour with such ferocity that he is lucky to be alive has seen his attacker jailed today.
Neville Duke, 34, was sentenced to 23 years after being found guilty of attempted murder at Birmingham Crown Court today (21 May).
The 36-year-old victim was stabbed seven times in his back, neck, chest in Shard End on 8 December after Duke turned up at his address looking for trouble.
Duke became violent when he visited the man’s address and after a tussle in the street he stabbed the victim with a sheath knife following a conversation in which he admitting he’d had a relationship with the man’s ex-partner.
He fled the scene after a group of people came to the man’s aid and was found by officers hiding in the loft at his home address on Kenrick Croft.
To cover his tracks he had burnt the clothes he was wearing during the attack.
The jury dismissed his claims that he stabbed the victim in self-defence.
A 39-year-old man also stood trial for attempted murder and was found not guilty.
Detective Constable Surinder Nota, from force CID, said: “We welcome today’s sentencing and hope that this helps bring some sort of comfort to the victim and his family.
“The attack was so severe that the victim needed lifesaving surgery and had his spleen removed.”
