Birmingham Police have launched an investigation after two men forced their way into a house in Kings Norton and stole a mobile phone.
The occupants, a husband and wife at the property in Popes Lane were alarmed by a loud bang on the door and as the man opened the window to see who was there, he was punched in the face.
As he fell back two men jumped through the window and pushed the woman on to the settee demanding cash. They searched the house but made off with nothing more than a mobile phone worth £50.
The husband, aged 71, was left with a cut above his eye and bruising and his wife, aged 63, was unhurt in the attack around 10.30 on Tuesday (7 October).
Officers are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the men make their getaway in a black Vauxhall Astra with tinted windows.
Investigating officer DC Steve Tarver said: “This was an alarming attack on a couple in their own home which left them distressed, but thankfully relatively unhurt.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the two men run from the property down the Rea Valley route onto Wychall Lane where they got into the Astra on the bridge and drove off.”
The men are described as both black and around 6 feet tall in dark clothing. One was heavily built and aged 20-30 and the other was slimmer with a long black beard.
Police have been scouring CCTV in the area to see if the men have been filmed and house to house enquiries have been made. Meanwhile they would like to hear from anyone with information on 101.
