A mother of two disabled children has been left “distraught” after callous thieves burgled her Birmingham home and stole her car, containing one of her child’s wheelchairs.
The West Heath mum has not only been left without a car − meaning she cannot take her children to school – but is now unable to take her children anywhere as one of them needs the wheelchair and the other a pushchair, which was also stolen.
The thieves are thought to have got into the house overnight on 31 January by pushing something through the letterbox in order to remove the car keys from a hook in the hallway.
The car − a grey Ford S-MAX − was then stolen from the driveway of the property on Westminster Place.
Sergeant Dean Gordon is investigating the burglary. He said: “The impact this burglary has had on the woman and her children is immense.
“Due to the children needing both a wheelchair and a pushchair, public transport is not a practical option for her and she relies on her car to get them about.
“She is absolutely distraught and does not know how she is going to get the children to school or even leave the house with them.
“We’re doing all we can to find out who was behind this despicable theft − including house-to-house inquiries and checking road cameras to see where the car may have gone − but I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
