A MAN is appearing in court this morning, accused of committing a string of robberies in Birmingham city centre.
The 22-year-old was arrested on Monday evening after officers on patrol spotted a man matching the description of the prime suspect for a series of robberies, where lone women were robbed of their mobile phones.
Each of the crimes were committed in the area around Great Charles Street Queensway between 13 May and 7 July.
Images were released of a suspect last week after officers were concerned by the number of similar crimes committed.
The arrested man, from Handsworth Wood, was questioned and later charged with six counts of robbery and one attempted robbery.
He will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning.
Detective Constable Alan Hands, from Birmingham CID, said: “Whilst the fact that someone is appearing in court in connection with these crimes, we continue to remind people to keep their phones concealed.
“When out and about we urge people to avoid advertising their expensive electrical equipment, be it iPods or mobile phones, to would be thieves. If you witness any suspicious activity, don’t hesitate to call us on 101.”
