A Birmingham teenager is starting a jail term of almost six years after police caught him walking past a parade of shops with a loaded gun in his bag.
Lawrence Morgan was stopped by officers during a routine operation outside William Hill at the Newtown Shopping Centre on 16 February this year.
When asked to stop, the 19-year-old quickly jumped on his bike and cycled away.
But he was challenged by other officers, dressed in plain-clothes, who were approaching from the opposite direction.
A struggle started and the teenager was handcuffed on the floor.
Despite being restrained and taken to a van, he tried to get away for a second time and head-butted a sergeant in his bid to escape.
He was arrested for assaulting a police officer and a subsequent search uncovered a handgun concealed inside his bag, along with cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin.
