A Birmingham police officer whose tireless efforts to improve conditions for the homeless community across the city, a mission that would lead to online stardom, is set hang up his boots.
PC Ian Northcott, probably better known to most as the ‘Busking Bobby’, shot to social media fame when his impromptu rendition of an Oasis classic was uploaded to YouTube.
The 50-year-old officer was on patrol in the city centre back in June 2013 when he treated shoppers to his version of ‘Wonderwall’.
But unbeknown to him his efforts were recorded on a smartphone and were soon attracting plaudits across the world.
“It was a really warm day and there was a great vibe in the city. As part of my work I’ve got to know some local buskers really well so I borrowed his guitar. It certainly wasn’t pre-planned but it seemed so natural at the time.
