A Birmingham housing officer has been jailed for five years for raping a tenant who had sought help after falling behind on her rent.
Clive Glasford appeared before Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday 17 March where he stood trial over an five-day period, accused of rape against a 27-year-old woman at her Northfield home in November 2013.
The young mother had attended her local housing officer for advice after suffering financial difficulties and was facing the threat of eviction by her landlord.
Glasford, of Pamela Road, later visited the woman’s home and called her, despite her having never given him her number.
A month later, on 12 December 2013, Glasford visited the woman again, unannounced, after an evening drinking at a local pub.
Some time later the woman woke to find Glasford assaulting her while she slept, with her son sleeping alongside her.
